Lecturer in Hydroinformatics

The Hydroinformatics and socio-technical innovation department focuses on catalysing change in society, technology and policy, and enhancing the use of enabling ICTs, towards sustainability and resilience. 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Hydroinformatics group’s research activities in various projects;
  • Contribute to the group’s education activities, as needed;
  • Ensure research contributions and project deliverables are of high quality, on time and within budget in projects involved;
  • Disseminate research results though scientific papers, conference papers and other outreach materials;
  • Design and implement training courses for capacity development;
  • Lead, or make major contributions to, project acquisitions;
  • Supervise/Co-supervise MSc and PhD students, as needed

Requirements

  • PhD in the field of hydroinformatics, applied mathematical modelling, water sciences, remote sensing, computer sciences, machine learning, civil or environmental engineering with an orientation to water related problems, from a university of high standing
  • Motivated to contribute to the further development of hydroinformatics research
  • Research experience in water and environmental systems modelling preferably including use of AI and machine learning, big data analysis and advanced computing.
  • One year of post-PhD relevant experience in research or industry will be an advantage
  • Experience of working in an international environment will be an advantage
  • Excellent writing skills and written and spoken command of English
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong team spirit
  • Having experience in project acquisition (or key contributions) will be an advantage
  • Having experience in working with the Global South will be an advantage

Terms of employment

The employment contract is for 38 hours per week.

The position is in accordance with scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. A competitive salary is offered depending on qualifications and experience.

This role requires the candidate to be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to the country. The position is in Delft, the Netherlands. The candidate should be prepared to carry out short-term missions abroad.

The appointment implies entry into the Netherlands' Civil Service Pension Fund (ABP). IHE Delft offers an attractive, multiple-choice employee benefits scheme, year-end bonus and generous pension scheme. We also offer 31 days leave based on a 38 hours working week.
