The Water Resources and Ecosystems Department strives to support society to make decisions which sustain freshwater resources and ecosystems by balancing their protection, restoration, use and development.
We do this through research, education and knowledge and capacity development in collaboration with other IHE departments and partners throughout the world. The Department conducts research and provides post-graduate education and training to professionals in the fields of hydraulic engineering, hydrology/hydrogeology, aquatic ecosystems. The department is organised into three research groups: 1) Hydrology and Water Resources, 2) River Basin Development, and 3) Aquatic Ecosystems, with each research group headed by a professor.
The Aquatic Ecosystems Research Group of IHE Delft is looking for motivated candidates with a keen interest in applied aquatic ecology for supporting livelihoods and sustainable lake management science in the global south. Candidates should have an enthusiasm for teaching in a multicultural environment, developing MSc teaching and training for professionals to support ecologically sound capacity in developing countries and those in transition, and with the potential to build an active research portfolio. The successful candidate will have the potential to attract competitive research funding, work in multidisciplinary teams, and have a keen interest or proven track record in lake, river or coastal management to support sustainable fisheries. Candidates should have a solid background in ecology and ecosystem functioning. Expertise in all or some of fisheries, stakeholder engagement, ecosystem modelling, conservation science and application of knowledge of ecosystem services for policy and capacity development is desirable.

The employment contract is for 38 hours (1 fte) per week. A competitive salary is offered depending on qualifications and experience in accordance with the conditions of employment for Dutch Universities.
This role requires the candidate to be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to the country. The position is in Delft, the Netherlands.
